It is with profound sadness that the community of Lake County announces the passing of Richard J. Regovich, Lake County Commissioner and Board President. Commissioner Regovich was a deeply respected public servant whose leadership, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the people of Lake County shaped more than a decade of meaningful progress and service. His passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community he worked tirelessly to uplift.
A lifelong resident of Willowick, Ohio, Rich’s commitment to his hometown and surrounding communities was evident in every role he embraced. Before becoming County Commissioner, he served as Mayor of Willowick, where he earned recognition for his steady leadership, approachable nature, and genuine concern for the well-being of residents. Those who worked alongside him admired his ability to connect with people from all walks of life, always leading with respect, empathy, and fairness.
Even across political differences, Rich stood out as a man of character. Many recall his warmth, decency, and generosity of spirit. One colleague shared that although they came from opposite sides politically, Rich immediately treated them with kindness and welcomed them into his world. He was the type of leader who valued relationships over partisanship, always prioritizing what was best for the community over personal or political gain.
Rich’s passion for service was matched only by his love for his family. He often spoke proudly of them, and those close to him knew that his greatest joy came from being a devoted husband, father, and friend. His legacy is one built not only on public accomplishments, but also on the countless moments of kindness, guidance, and support he offered to those fortunate enough to know him.
The impact of his work—whether in Willowick or throughout Lake County—will continue to be felt for years to come. His leadership created positive change, strengthened community bonds, and inspired many to serve with the same heart and authenticity he embodied every day.
